What's the thread about/why did this thread appeal to me?:

It is interesting how people today considered world domination as a "near-possibility", but turned instead to ancient empires and speculated on how such and such a major power could or could not theoretically had "conquered the world", when in actual history, the idea was almost unheard of by people of the past.

What's the thread about/why did this thread appeal to me?:

This explored what opportunities the Ming could have but lost when they curtailed their maritime expeditions. It also looked at the different reasons between the Ming and the Europeans on why they sponsored distant expeditions.

For most of histories, the Central Plains states were threatened from its north, in the form of states founded nomads. Could this have been dealt with permanently by assimilating the nomads into their people?

What's the thread about/why did this thread appeal to me?: It's a massive project done by Iamnick to compare both the real history of the Three Kingdoms period and the novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's a good thread for people who like or get to know about that period through playing games, and without even reading the novel. Also, this thread debunks alot of folktales/legends which were around for a long time.

This thread held an interesting discussion on the origin of the Manichean Chant of Fire from the popular Jin Yong novel Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre 倚天屠龙记. It also explores facts of Manichaeism and Zoroasterism.
