I have recently watched a Chinese movie the title is FEARLESS, there's this girl there.. I think she belongs in 1 of the Chinese ethnic tribes. Can you tell me the name of her tribe.
The way she's dressed similar to the ethnic tribes in the Philippines. Thanks for any info.

probably some tribe near Henan...by the looks of the picture, you can see wheat and flat land aka Central Plains. The central Plains were not just inhabited by Hans, but also other ethnic tribes as well like the Hui, Turks, Mongols, etc

looks really southern. some minority around yunnan, tibet (unlikely) and all the way east to guangdong area.
the style of hat kind of reminds me of the Yi and Qiang but I don't think they are the right ethnic group.

Definitely not Taiwanese aboriginals! They looked different in details.

I thought of Miao2 苗 or Yao2 傜 in Yunnan when I first saw the movie, but I am not sure. The girl's hair style and head piece is very distinct. If you can find a site showing all the minority tribes of China and their clothing, you can probably find it.

There was same question in another post here. I answered, "I swore it's 彝族 (Yi People) of Yunnan".
polar_zen
Well, in the film, the character is located in Tianjin, so maybe somewhere around there...

Are you sure? I looked for 彝族, but the head piece for the girl doesn't looked quite like it. Can you paste in the link to that thread? Thanks!

The hair style and the shape of the hat for the girl is very distinct. I believe the group should be in Yunnan, Guizhou, or Sichuan provinces. There are a lot of different minority people around there. I highly doubt they are around Tianjin. The groups in Tianjin are most likely Hui or Manchurian or Mongolian, but this group does not dress like those people.
General_Zhaoyun
My guess is an ethnic minority from Yunnan .. but I'm not sure which ethnic exactly..

The hair style of the men reminds Manchu or Mongol. They do this farming thus maybe Mongols of Yunnan.

I thought the pure Mongolian hair style for men was different from that, but you would know it better than I. smile.gif
Note: The pure Mongolian hair styles I know of were from the Yuan dynasty paintings, so they were not the later styles.

Li's hairstyle looks more like the Manchu style from afar, but it maybe something else -- I couldn't make out the details. Otherwise, could the movie's custume designer mixed the styles of the ethnic groups? They did it sometimes in the movies.

Let's take a look at the scenario tongue.gif
In the movie Huo Yuan Jia goes with a ship. Is it Grand Canal, Huanghe or Bohai? Is it far from Tianjin or not?

And they did farming.

They did ancestral worship.

Hmm... We must ask from the movie makers! biggrin.gif

It is very interesting that MOST of the posts above did NOT answer your question correctly at all!

Her dress is of Miao (also called Hmong in Vietnam) minority in southwest China. I am very interested in the Philippine tribal dress you mentioned. If possible, can you post serveral pictures?

In fact, there are indeed some connections between Homg-Mien languages and Austronesian languages (including Malay, Indonesian, Philippine, Polynesian and Taiwan aboriginals). Of course, languages migrate with populations. The mongoloid peoples continously spreaded southward from China mainland over last 10000 years, to Taiwan, Philippines, Indochina peninsula, Malay peninsula, Indonedian islands, eastern pacific islands, and some Malay people even spreaded to Madagascar along India-Africa coast. The emigrants mixed with local natives (namely negritos) at different ratios, and formed today's major racial compositions in southeast Asian countries.

I highly doubt that

since Turks & Mongols being nomadic or semi-nomadic.

I would Tu Jia zu from Hu Nan province, from the way the ricefiled was cultivated and how the people (farmers) in that village (in the movie) pay respect to nature. Plus the village speaks perfect mandarin, and Tujia of Hunan also speaks Mandarin very well

How did Huo Yuanjia get to Southwest China by water. If you watch the movie, it doesn't make much sense, as he drifts ashore.

It's a possibility. How's their ethnic dress like?
Babylon
While watching this video, 3 ethnic groups seem to have a similar head dress: the Buyei, Sui and Tu. However, there's also the possibility that it could also be Hmong, specifically the Side-Comb Miao of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.

Does anyone have more movie stills of the 'blind' woman and her people so I can make a better comparison?
