A while ago there was a discussion or two on Jews in China and specifically those in Kaifeng. Anyway, I tripped over this reading the news today...

Just fyi
tung2sai
I remember reading that and I went ahead to add a comment, but it didn't get posted yet. I wrote how even though this is about the Kaifeng Jewish community's descendent in Israel, there are a lot of Jewish Chinese marriages in the US.

I wanted to ask about my cousin (well distant cousin) who married a Jewish woman, like would there kids be considered as 100% Jewish but also 100% Chinese since their mother was Jewish and they carry a Chinese surname?

The bride is very pretty. I have similar question like tung2sai. However, I think the children might not be considered 100% Jewish because the father is not a Jew. I think the Orthodox Jewish Rabbi would have some complains about that fact! rolleyes.gif

As I understand it, and I am not Jewish, any child of a Jewish woman is Jewish. That is one reason in the US Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox sects oppose Jewish men marrying non-Jews.

That's my understanding also, and I have many Jewish friends as well as a Jewish husband -- from that, you would know that he is definitely NOT an Ultra-Orthodox Jew and not even close to being a barely Orthodox Jew, either. laugh.gif However, from what I understand about those Ultra-Orthodox Jews' mind set, they might still have a problem about a non-Jewish father, though. You do know that Jews and non-Jews could not marry in Israel, right? They had to travel out of Israel in order to marry. It is supposed to be a very good business for the travel agencies in Israel. That law was supposed to be passed by the Ultra-Orthodox Jews! rolleyes.gif
