Ningbo was Chiang Kai-shek's home town. I did not think it prospered during the Mao era. Nevertheless, when I visited it last week, I can feel the city blooming. The city is small and peaceful.

Ningbo merchants owned a lot of large international corporations in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taiwan, as well as other places since very long time ago (in early 1900 to now). Even though Ningbo did not seem to be prosperous under Mao, it remains one of the most important home city for a lot of extremely wealthy oversea Chinese!

I know. My friend originally from Ningbo told me that many Shanghiese are actually from Ningbo.

What an odd combination of styles that building has.

Yes, it seemed that someone, the Birtish, the KMT or the CCP, decided to add something modern to an anicent building.

Someone did not have a good eye when they designed that poor building.
