What is the name of the type/style of the calligraphy that you have as a seal for your forum posts? Its a very old script and I would like to try my hand at painting it. Thank you for your consideration.

The type of calligraphy for my seal is known in English as "Seal script". In chinese, this type of calligraphy writing is called "Zhuan Shu 篆书". There are two types of seal script: Big Seal (Da Zhuan 大篆)and Small Seal (Xiao Zhuan 小篆) . The big seal was used during Zhou dynasty (1200-300 BC), while the small seal was used during Warring States period and Qin dynasty (300 - 206 BC). The small seal was developed by simplifying big seal and the project was led by Li Si, then the prime minister of Qin dynasty.

Although Chinese writing evolved into "clerical" and standard scripts later on, seal scripts continued to be used on Chinese seals throughout 2000 years of Chinese history. In fact, seal art is a specialised field of study on its own. Seals were essentially like 'ancient Chinese signature', they were used as a form of 'chop' or 'signature' when authorizing documents or identification.
