Free Chinese Couplets.
For a very long time I always wondered how I could get some of those beautiful vertical lines of traditional chinese characters in my paintings, as humble as they are. To me it was another element that would improve with time.
Accidentally in a second hand book shop some eight months after I gave up on this topic I stumbled across a book that was actually wrapped up with 4 other books and being used as a prop like a leg for a display in the book store.
The Book is called simply CHINESE COUPLETS.
The book is by T. C. Lei who is, by profession, the Director of Extramural Studies of the Chinese university in Hong Kong.
Apparently he has published over 30 books on Chinese Art, Literature and "things chinese" including Chinese painting and calligraphy, Chinese seals and Chinese food!!!
Ive scanned the couplets and have them displayed in the Gallery I run and if you need something romantic or otherwise atmnospheric this might be a good reosurce.
For me this was a once in a lifetime find. I hope it is of use to some.
