I was just wondering...of all the Chinese weapons, which one is your favorite? For some reason, I like the Taiji Straightsword because I really like the way it is used for some reason....like watching videos of people using it...looks so cool. Also, I like the good ol' spear beacause it is long and good for various swinging techniques.

So...what is all of your favorite weapons?

I could make this a poll but there are too many weapons to name and I'm sure this has been done before but I am new here and didn't see it. Thanks!
BlueDragonMagik
I think I remember there was a poll on weapons that was done a few months ago. ... You got to find it . ... post-81-1094881491.gif

The basics of a spear is to thrust.

[Swinging it round and round] comes from the Wushu ppl, using the spear as a staff.

Agreed with Cardinal on the Wushu and spear.

Anyways, technically, there is no sujch thing as a "Taiji Straightsword"...since there was no sword designed for Taiji. There IS such thing as a Jian though...or, translated, a sword. wink.gif

I like the pudao, it just looks very cool, uniquely Chinese, and one of my favorite fictional characters uses one (Alita/Gally)
Yang Zongbao
I like the Zhan Ma Dao, very deadly to enemy horsemen.
And the Crossbow is also very Chinese to me...
Do guns count? biggrin.gif

Like ? Or do best using ?

I prefer the Chinese made 5.8 mm bull pup assault rifle.

And after browing the other posts I discovered its about ancient Chinese weapons.

In any case I prefer the Gu Duo (mace) or the heavy jointed staff. I prefer to bash my opponents.
Anthrophobia
The ZhanMaDao and the whip(why do they call it a whip anyways? It's just a sword that bashes instead of cuts). Also like the throwing knives(or darts, still don't know which category it belongs to).
Miborovsky
I like the Zhuge nu. It's GI proof and packs a punch.

Hmm,my preference goes to the san jie gun. Somehow,i've always had a preference for weapons which you can wield independently with 2 hands, like dual swords.

Staff and spear (or lance as some might translate it). In Cantonese it would be "kuan" for staff and "cheung" for spear.

I like it because its moves are instinctive and their moves are similar, only with the cheung you learn how to thrust for the kill.

Next to that would be the long-hilted sabre favoured by Guan Yu. It's heavy and I've only actually handled it once, but the feel is incredible!

Then comes the straight two-edged sword, then the broadsword or sabre.

Grand Lady Marshal Mok Kwai Yeng,

Wow! ... A female warrior. ... what do you prefer ... the jian (straight double-edged sword) or the dao (sabre). ... Didn't you studied Wing Chun before?

Is that the triple sticks? ... If so, that is such a cool weapon. ... I learned it before. ... I have a question for you guys. ... How many of you have these weapons and know how to use these weapons? ...

Thanks for the compliment... smile.gif however as I think I've mentioned before, I was only taught the basics. Other than that, it is only my great love and enthusiasm for martial arts that gives other the illusion that I am a "gaoshou", which is really not the case at all.

As for the question, I prefer the jian as it's lighter and I was entranced by the story of the Yueh Maiden. I find I prefer the range of motion and moves of a two-edged blade rather than just one edge as is the case with a dao.

But both are great weapons.

I didn't like the San Jie Gun, my Shifu tried to teach me some Wushu forms with it, and found it was pointless.
He could've figured it out earlier, would've saved me bruises and brain cells >o
And then he moved me onto the PoDao biggrin.gif

I prefer weapons that are more...military, Sabers, Heavy Jian, Polearms...etcetc

Learning how to use the San Jie Guen (Triple Sectional staff)
Basic Exercises:

#1 throw and catch w/ your eyes open.

#2 throw and catch w/ your eyes closed.

#3 swing and catch w/ your eyes open.

#4 swing and catch w/ your eyes closed.

#5 Combine the action of throw, swing and catch with your eyes closed.

Was able to achieve the basic exercises while wearing a motorcycle helmet and tons of pads.

Believe any weapons (esp the Triple sectional staff) that can neutralize an adversary is military enough f/ me.

This Cardinal suddenly remembered that he devised a poll.

Categorized the weapons in terms of various ranges.

i seriously hope you guys don't actually think Chinese warriors used those goofy kung fu weapons

on horseback, a Chinese static recurve bow around 60-70 pounds of draw like this one

for a sidearm, this Tang Da Dao

on foot, a very heavy Chinese static recurve bow around 100 pounds like this one

with a Zhan Ma Dao for a sidearm

I have long since learnt that when teaching somone the Sanjiegun, ALWAYS prepare a helmet for the learner.
