Well there's quite a number of figures from the Three Kingdoms who I find quite fascinating, but that list would be too long. So I'll name a few names from that period, and some from other dynasties.

Qin: Bai Qi

Chu: Xiang Yu

Former Han: Huo Qubing, Han Xin

Three Kingdoms/ Later Han: Sun Ce, Cao Cao, and Wang Ping

Northern Liang: Chen Qingzhi (Unfortunately I cannot find much information about him that is in English. But I did read a bio of him in the game Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where he appears as a bonus character. I'm not exactly sure if the biography is true or not, but what I read was quite interesting indeed.)

Tang: Tang Taizong

Song: Yue Fei and Yue Yun

ROC: Chiang Kai Shek

(Note, this is not a complete list due to the fact that it would be extremely long with every figure who I find to be fascinating. So I simply put the names of those who I like a lot more than the others.)

Now I am not questioning or saying you shouldn't like Chiang Kai Shek, but just out of the blue, why do you like him?

I mean other characters you liked [aside from Wang Ping, Yue Yun, and Chen QingZhi whom all have questionable records of their abilities] Generalissimos Chiang [now I don't think he is a generalissimos by its definition, but since people call him that I will stick with it] though is able and courageous and many other quality you find in a military man, he lack the aura of Xiang Yu's 'I will vanquish anything that stands in my way' to Han Xin's 'I will lead as many man as you have' to Huo Qubing's 'I won't marry till the day I wipe them all out' to Yue Fei's '朝天阙‘
I think there are more characters in that period whose heart are more like those whom you like, now don't get me wrong, I like Chiang Kaishiek far more then most Chinese people, but its interesting to see how he really doesn't match up to others in your liking group so I am wondering, are there other reasons?

no one like confucius?
Accidentally on Purpose

Overall, it's a tie between Tang of Shang (just for the cool name) or Qin Shi Huang Di (previously Ying Zheng).

Qin Shi Huang Di was just an awesome dude...who was a little crazy.

He was the first emperor, unified china, built the great wall, pushed the Xiongnu (huns) back and centralised the bureaucracy. Pretty awesome if you ask me. clapping.gif

If you just look past the part where he buried Confucian scholars alive and burnt his books... tongue.gif

my favorite in chinese historty is Da Hua Tuo (大華佗), the doctor. smile.gif
and from my own history - Simeon ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simeon_I_of_Bulgaria ). he was very wise and rightfull ruller, set laws that everyone should educate in writinng and reading, there was hardly any poverty, the thieves got their right hand choppet off, the liars - their thounges. in no time crime was down to not excisting and it was the golden era. the currency was the strongest in whole europe at that time. he expanded the borders of the country and the good things is that the people from the new lands were happy to become his citizens.. Byzantines were scared from our army as they were brave to the point of madness. smile.gif)

China, one of the countries that can boast of an ancient civilization, has a long and mysterious history - almost 5,000 years of it! Like most other great civilizations of the world. From the long history of China, there emerge many eminent people that have contributed a lot to the development of the whole country and to the enrichment of her history. Among them, there are emperors like Li Shimin (emperor Taizong of the Tang), philosophers like Confucius, great patriotic poets like Qu Yuan and so on.

Definitely Li Shimin (Emperor Taizong of Tang dynasty). I also admire Kangxi Emperor.

Without question: #1: Sima Qian, for his dedication and sacrifices in the name of History and for his almost scientific objectivity which was a rare quality among former historians.

#2: Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, perhaps not for his personal qualities, but certainly in respect for his influence in shaping China.

#3: Duke Wen of Jin AKA Chong'er, for his virtue of being able to take in others' suggestions.

I suppose this is from recent readings: Chen Yun (陈云) was responsible for settling down a runaway speed inflation during the birth year of the PRC in 1949. He helped calm a inflation problem of up to 2700%. Which I suppose is laughable compared to the problem that's happening in Zimbabwe, I bet Chen Yun could help them fix it!

Buga
秦始皇 because of his ruthlessness and his ability to conquer the whole china as one and create one form of chinese writing (which is now perverted by the introduction of simplified chinese)

The Kangxi Emperor is one of the most admirable figures in Chinese History.
